KNELL
As I ponder a vivid dream from last night, I dig down into the hidden places of my mind. I feel like an explorer, a deep sea diver. You may be familiar with this process of probing your own psyche — going into those spaces BELOW the normal layers of awareness, where there lies the deep emotions, the tender spots. I think of swirling waters in a LITER bottle, the kind you might collect pond water in, where you watch a little FLECK of something float and wonder what it is. I imagine diving deeper and deeper into the ocean of my mind, attuned to the KNELL, sounding the depths.

Fingernails DIRTY, break
apart clumps of earth.
Division of daylilies, iris.
PAUSE, sit on stone BENCH.
Sip water from the jug.
Time soon to KNEEL.
Listen for the KNELL.
Calling us to prayer.Heather
